21.Silver mines in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines
In Saint-Marie-aux-Mines, the miner-guides of the ASEPAM invite you to embrace the history and the ambiance of the old mines. The Neuenberg path will take you towards the “underground pearl” of the Val d’Argent : the Saint Louis-Eisenthür mine. After a passage through the splendid hand carved galleries, you’ll feel like you were actually there with those miners so long ago and discover their traditions and the roots of our industrial civilisation.
Variation : We can surprise our guests with a candlelight aperitif served by a “miner” in his authentic apparel in the big cave of the mine.
This is an unusual tour which is very interesting for which clients must be willing to don boots, slickers, helmets with forehead lamps (all furnished) walk, and spend about one hour underground in order to discover this site which is a registered Historical Monument (total length of tour: 3 hours).
